Job description

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for general maintenance and repairs as established by the Maintenance Supervisor or Chief of Engineering for the Central Iowa VA Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa.

Major duties include: Assists an experienced Electrician, Plumber/Pipefitter and/or HVAC Mechanic with performing various tasks pertaining to engineering systems throughout the facility. Assist with maintenance, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing of various electrical equipment and systems. Ordering necessary tools/material.

Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on a variety of systems and equipment. Performs basic electrical, plumbing and HVAC work independently. Performs walk through inspections of buildings and initiates electronic work orders for deficiencies found.

Bring tools, equipment and materials appropriate to work on assignments to and from work areas, shop and shop storage areas. Keep shops, work areas and equipment clean, secure and orderly; and safely and properly removes and disposes of waste, debris and excess materials.
