Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist

This position is located in Region 8, in the Environmental Historic Preservation Branch. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience leading environmental and historic preservation programs. They will have knowledge of National Historic Preservation Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and have demonstrated success interpreting and applying these laws to complex and politically projects.

What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will provide comprehensive regulatory, policy, guidance, assessment, planning, training, and technical assistance for FEMA programs. As the Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist, you will represent the Region with Federal, Tribal, State, and local government officials, the public, media, and other on environmental matters.

Typical assignments include: Analyzing scientific and technical EHP issues and regulations. Leading and supervising multiple teams of Environmental Planning and Historic Preservation Specialists, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work. Serving as the regional technical authority for EHP compliance, making final determinations under NEPA and other environmental laws.

Developing, implementing, and revising regional EHP policies, procedures, and guidelines; participate in national policy development. Representing FEMA in disaster operations as EHP Advisor or Manager, coordinating with other agencies and stakeholders. What else do I need to know?

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
