Job description

This RN Assistant Nurse Manager-Dialysis position is located in the Nursing service at the Jamaica Plain Campus location. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.

The purpose of this position is to enhance succession planning for the Nurse Manager role. The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse who is accountable to the Nurse Manager. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of the dialysis unit. This includes the management, supervision and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied healthcare staff. As a Registered Nurse, the Assistant Nurse Manager is also responsible for contributing to the establishment of care delivered by nursing and other allied healthcare staff.

As a Registered Nurse, the Assistant Nurse Manager is also responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidence-based nursing standards of practice. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. Promotes, creates, demonstrates, and ensures a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. The Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and creative approaches to management of complex care. In addition, the individual applies skills necessary to identify and coordinate discipline-specific education, as well as training in leadership, professional staff development and emerging needs to all levels of staff.

This Registered Nurse is a nurse supervisor and provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and acts as the Nurse Manager during the absence of the Nurse Manager. The ANM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP).Staff who are interested in pursuing a career path in a management role are encouraged to apply if the following qualifications are met:Demonstrated Skills: Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards, Patient Safety standards in the safe use and operation of equipment Demonstrate ability to lead and direct diverse and dynamic groups of staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care Demonstrate strong organization and prioritization skills Demonstrate understanding of and application of change management principles Demonstrate ability to collect data, analyze results, and implement program recommendations/changes based upon the findings Work Schedule: Day Shift Compressed/Flexible: May be Available Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Current or former employees must submit copies of their most recent Sf-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Excepted Service.

Veterans preference does not apply for other current permanent Federal agency employees. May be subject to satisfactory completion of our credentialing process. The incumbent may be required to travel to other VA campuses and CBOC's.
