Physician- Supervisory Hospitalist Medical Officer on Duty

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The Supervisory Hospitalist Medical Officer of the Day manages inpatient care operations, oversees clinical staff performance, and coordinates emergency medical response.

Key duties include directing daily service operations, supervising medical teams, and managing patient flow. Clinical and Operational Leadership Oversees daily operations of the inpatient medicine service, managing patient flow, bed assignments, and transfer requests. Serves as Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) to triage admissions and balance workloads across clinical units.

Develops and implements clinical policies, procedures, and protocols to optimize patient care and clinical outcomes. Coordinates with other services (Nursing, Social Work, Pharmacy, Emergency Medicine, Specialty Providers, etc.) to ensure seamless, interdisciplinary patient care. Monitors clinical performance and patient outcomes; identifies opportunities for improvement.

Implements evidence-based practices and meets or exceeds applicable quality benchmarks. Oversees reporting of performance metrics, adverse events, and utilization data. Supervises and evaluates subordinate physicians, advanced practice providers, residents, and medical students.

Monitors compliance with hospital bylaws, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Leads or participates in relevant hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives. Coordinates coverage schedules and participates in administrative hospital committees.

Ensures compliance with all federal, VA and Joint Commission standards. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (CPRS). Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Due to the nature of this leadership position, it is expected that working hours could be extended beyond the normal tour of duty and it is expected to be available 24/7 as well as holidays and weekends if needed.
