The Montana VA Health Care System, Nursing, Mental Health Service is currently recruiting for one (1) RRTP Nursing Assistant, at the Fort Harrison VA Medical Center.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The RRTP Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving preventive, acute, sub-acute chronic, maintenance, and hospice care. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide direct nursing care and assist with activities of daily living for Veterans with acute and chronic conditions, under supervision of licensed health care providers. Perform a range of clinical tasks, including tracheostomy care and suctioning, enemas, catheterization, colostomy care, skin care, simple dressing changes, and application of braces/prosthetics.
Utilize equipment such as glucose monitoring machines; report abnormal results and intake/output deviations to the appropriate staff. Monitor and document observations, patient care, responses, and subtle changes in condition (behavior, mood, skin, appetite), taking timely action as needed. Recognize and respond to emergent situations (e.g., basic life support, controlling bleeding, behavioral crises) and seek immediate assistance.
Promote Veterans' independence and autonomy through individualized, respectful care and facilitation of group activities in accordance with treatment plans. Participate in treatment planning meetings; provide verbal patient updates to the interdisciplinary team and contribute to care planning. Document patient information accurately using appropriate tools and formats.
Participate in maintaining a safe, clean environment; report hazards, remove defective equipment, observe safety regulations, and practice proper infection control and aseptic technique. Serve as preceptor and mentor to new NAs; assist with orientation and evaluate practical experience of NA trainees and new staff. Manage challenging or disruptive patient behaviors, intervene as needed, and request additional support when necessary.
Complete all mandatory training on schedule and actively participate in annual competency assessments. Work Schedule: 7:30 PM - 8:00 AM and 11:30 PM - 8:00 AM OR 7:30 AM - 8:00 PM and 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM; Staff work six (6) 12-hour shifts and one (1) 8-hour shift in a pay period.??????? When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
