This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

The Staff Audiologist conducts a full range of audiological evaluations to determine the nature, type, and severity of hearing, communication, and vestibular disorders. The incumbent effectively counsels patients and family members regarding management of these disorders and independently applies professional, contemporary audiologic treatments to the full range of patient populations. The position is located at the Kona CBOC in Kona, Hawaii, within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Service Line, VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS), and may support other VAPIHCS locations as needed.
The duties related to this position include but are not limited to the following: Clinical Functions: - Perform functions associated with the contemporary audiology scope of practice as defined by the American Academy of Audiology and/or the American Speech Language Hearing Association. - Determine the nature, type, and severity of hearing, communication, and vestibular disorders. - Counsel patients and family members regarding management of hearing, communication, and vestibular disorders.
- Provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional audiology to other health care professionals. - Independently apply professional, contemporary audiologic treatments to the full range of patient populations. - Participate in the facility's quality improvement program, including responsibility for performance measures related to the specialty.
Education: - Provide orientation and training of medical staff. - Assist in the training and supervision of students, trainees, externs, and fellows, providing feedback on progress toward established educational goals. - Keep current with theory and practice through continuing education programs, journals, textbooks, and other literature, and in-service programs.
- Provide patient and family education, including informed consent. Administrative: - Participate in developing guidelines and protocols, new patient programs, and evaluation of existing programs. - Work with other departments/facilities to develop joint programs.
- Maintain patient records and other data required by the clinic, service, and medical center. - Maintain supplies, equipment, and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency. Other duties as assigned.
