Job description

The Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Licensed Mental Health Professional Counselor provides specialty mental health services to the population enrolled in the John J. Pershing (JJP) VA Medical Center and its affiliated Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). This includes clinical treatment, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers or agencies as needed by the Veteran.

Major Duties: (1) Clinical Responsibilities: (90% time) Provides a full range of clinical assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders. a) Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others. b) Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy c) Provides consultation to professional staff within John J.

Pershing VAMC and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients with opiate addictions. d) Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for patients receiving services within the Mental Health Behavioral Service (MHBS) line. (2) Administrative Responsibilities (10% time) a) Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team.

b) Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services. c) Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients. d) Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes).

e) Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings Enriching Element: Other Significant Responsibilities (Facility-wide, VISN- level, or National Level) ( 0 % time) Committee work outside of incumbent's service, ongoing special project assignments, participation in VISN or National-level workgroups.
